The Reasoning Behind the Recipes:

I should begin by mentioning that, for the most part, I don’t believe in kid food.  I believe in real food.

I operate under the theory that, if I want Owen to be a well-rounded, healthy, and flexible eater, I need to instill that early on.  With this in mind, I work to expose him to a variety of nutritious foods, textures, flavors, temperatures, etc.  I strive to have the majority of what we eat be unprocessed, whole foods.  But, let’s be honest, we pexels-photo-533360.jpegdo eat processed foods as well (gasp!)  Sometimes we are on the go and don’t have access to other options and sometimes this mama just doesn’t have the time or energy to make everything from scratch!  Who does?!

I also try, as much as possible, to feed Owen whatever my husband and I are eating (or a modification of it, as necessary.)  Of course this is not always possible (e.g. sometimes mom and dad are eating food that is less than healthy – oops!) and during those times, Muffin Man does get something different (and more nutritious!)  However, when feasible, I like for us to share a meal together.  This saves me from preparing multiple meals, supports mealtime as a social family event, and also allows us to model desirable eating habits and behavior.

This is what works for our family.  What works for your family might be different.  We’re all doing the best we can for the ones we love!

I hope your family will enjoy these recipes as much as we have!  As you test them out, send me your feedback!  This site is a work in progress and I will be adding new recipes ASAP.  Please keep checking back!
